The word date is Persian in origin and has been imported from the Persian language into Hindi, Urdu, Turkish, Indonesian, and Malay to the east and Greek to the west. Based on statics Egypt is the leading country in the production and cultivation of dates. The country produces about 2 tons of dates each year. This is just over 17% of world production of dates and only 3% of world exports. Egypt has grown more than 100% of date palm cultivation since 1993 and now has about 15,558,000 palm trees. Those are Indonesia (24%) and Malaysia (15%). The total export value is about $ 41.8 million.
After Egypt, Iran stands at 947,809 tons annually. But despite high production, it accounts for about 7.7% of the world’s total exports. And Iran date exporters mainly export to Asian countries. The largest importers are India (16%) and Malaysia (11%), followed by Russia with 9.9% of Iran dates.
The third-largest producer of dates is, Saudi Arabia. The country has good conditions for growing and cultivating dates, with an annual production of 4 tons.
Iraq is in fourth place with an annual production of 675,440 tons and holds 7.3% of global Date exports. Exporters have exported, 79% to India and a percentage to Egypt (8.5%) and Morocco (3.7%).
Without dates, human populations could not be concentrated in arid regions. Caravans have been around for centuries to transport dates. From the beginning cultivation of dates became a sacred symbol for fertility and fertility.
